Let them eat cake!

There are few things that cause irritating bloggers like us to be speechless but one of the latest press releases from the Council has really made us pause for thought at it's sheer insensitivity and crassness.

Under the title of "Ferrier residents feast of fun" the Council have put out a release promoting an event this Saturday on the Ferrier Estate. Apparently, according to the Council member responsible for the incompetence surrounding the Ferrier Estate (Deputy Leader Peter Brooks), it will be a chance for residents to "celebrate" Kidbrooke.

Yes, that's right, residents are being asked to celebrate the fact that the Council has neglected their estate and left it to rot over the past decades. They're being asked to celebrate that their hard work and desire to own their own home is being taken away from them with a derisory offer of compensation. They're being asked to celebrate the total lack of communication that the Council has given them in it's so-called "Kidbrooke Vision".

It's almost as if the Council believes that if it throws a party with some free food it can make up for its years of incompetence and abject neglect. If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny.

Is this going to be one of the big "Great Get Toghethers" that people were talking about beforehand?

It's not one of the Great Get Togethers.

The Ferrier Feast Day is an annual event, instituted in 2003, to encourage community cohesion in the Ferrier and surrounding areas in the light of the redevelopment.

A worthwhile idea in my opinion and a lot of work goes into organising it. However the Council leadership are trying to do a misleading "everybody's happy" spin on the back of the event.

Funnily enough, lying in bed this morning reflecting on how Great Get Togethers differ from Time To Listen, the phrase "bread and circuses" popped into my mind.

Like others, I do think that there is something imperialist about NuLab - are the proles getting restive? Throw a Fun Day or a Feast Day or a Great Get Together. Some free food, a bouncy castle, a band, and a couple of rabbits for the children to pet, and the great unwashed will sink back into apathy, forget that no one is listening to them, and lose the desire to revolt against the decay and waste and self-serving officialdom around them.

Indigo i think mein kampf may be appropriate in this case, quote "The public which is mostly stupid, and has very short memories, is not capable of recognising the real instigator of a quarrel" or words to that effect. This appears to me to be the attitude adopted by a lot of modern day politicians

We imagine that Cllr Freeman will deny to the death that the above post was made by him. However, if it was him we're presuming he must be drunk.

Whatever you do Bill don't get on a bus in that state. We'd hate for you to get in trouble with the police again.

I wouldn't miss with Bill Freeman, have you seen the size of him? He's an ex-professional wrestler, you know (no kidding).
