Council fails to hold consultation?

If the Deputy leader Councillor Brooks had been earning his money and not missing the London City Airport Consultative Committee meetings, perhaps Thamesmead residents would have been invited for their opinions on the consultation for the airports expansion that closes in two days. After all, they live about 4000 feet from the end of the runway.

Shamefully residents have no representation in Thamesmead anymore, and the murky world of the Thames Gateway doesn't look like it will get better any time soon.

Should any Thamesmead resident be reading this do leave a comment and let us know how you feel about the prospect of an extra 40,000 flights per year over your homes when the airport goes from 81,000 to 120,000. We cannot do anything about it, but at least we offer a place for you to tell the incompetent quasi-corrupt council what you think of them.

This news frightens me for a few reasons:

1. Nobody, I repeat nobody is aware of this application to increase flights by 40,000 a year.
2. What is the noise going to be like? It has already worsened over the past year with the introduction of more and more jets. Already we cannot have our windows open when a jet goes over.
3. What is the air pollution going to be like - will it cause more asthma and other bronchial diseases?
4.I suspect our properties will be devalued enormously - after all would you want to buy a flat with a beautiful view but one that you can't sit out on the balcony or have your windows open because you have so many decibels of engine jet flying over a few hundred feet above?
5. What else is Greenwich Council not telling us? I dread to think.
6. The residents of Thamesmead have been blinded by the Council for too long - hoodwinked, misled, mis-sold and so far there appears to be no accountability.

More people need to stand up and ask questions - the Council are not consulting them on issues that will affect our health, finance and our quality of lives. What is more important than that?

I am mortified that Thamesmead residents who it affects have not been represented at all. How do the councillors justify this????

Once again it is forget about Thamesmead-their residents do not matter or care...BUT WE DO!

We would all like to keep what little quality of life we have with the already heavy airport traffic overhead, without the increase.

This is scandalous. I read about the increase on a Thamesmead
Residents Forum
but blindly hoped our local elected representatives would be defending the interests of West Thamesmead and the massive impact this will have on the dwindling quality of life in the area. How wrong I was!

It looks as though councillors from Bexley and Newham have made the effort to attend the committee meetings. Why has Greenwich failed when the impact on West Thamesmead is so obvious? Does Counciller Brooks actully know where his ward is?

Bring on the next elections.
