Will they have an office on Council property?

Having come in for some flak in the comments here for never writing about local Council politics, the Eltham North councillor Nigel Fletcher - he of O2 ticket infamy - has spotted an advert on the official Labour Party website which is looking for a "Borough Organiser" for Greenwich.

Councillor Fletcher calls the post a "spinner" which you'd expect because he's a Tory. The only question we have is where the successful applicant will operate from. If the applicant takes a role which sees them operating out of Council offices then expect comment from us. If not, then it's just a job for a leaflet writer in advance of the GLA elections (and any possible by-elections) next May.

"Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it infamy!" Thanks, chaps. Will I ever live it down? No, thought not. But in case anyone cares - I have never accepted free tickets to the 02, I asked to make a donation to charity to attend the opening night, and asked other councillors to do the same. I then decided not to attend at all, although Labour councillors did. Touchy, moi?

At least you've got a sense of humour about it. Should any readers be wondering it wasn't just Labour councillors that attended. Council officers did too.

And I suspect the same went for The Red Bull Air Races?

I noticed a certain official was very quiet when I mentioned that many had walked to Charlton riverside to watch as the seats were too expensive!

That extra £10 council tax a month clearly helped GC hospitality.

This just gets more and more silly.

Ofcourse the postholder won't operate out of the council buildings as the job hasn't been advertised by the council.

All political parties have organisers. I'd be very surprised if the Tories didn't have one in Eltham.

Either way doesn't Nigel Fletcher also work for the Conservative Party? That doesn't mean he is based in the Town Hall of neighbouring Tory Bexley does it now...

Big big sigh...

The Organiser would be based, like it has in the past from the Labour offices on Woolwich Road.

So another no news story?

That's not strictly true. There were recent discussions about party political employees paid for out of the Council budget and operating out of the Council for communications purposes.

I think Nigel's being just a little bit flexible with the truth here.

"I have never accepted free tickets to the 02"

Ermm, yes he did.

He accepted an invitation to go along to the Bon Jovi concert. True enough he made a charity donation of the "appropriate amount" but that was his choice and it doesn't make the tickets any less free.

I was down the pub the other night and someone bought me a beer, I also happened to pop about a pint worths of cash in the poppy collection. According to Nigel's logic I can claim that I never accepted the free pint.

Also remember that Nigel's decision not to attend came only after the story was dragged into the open by the BBC and the Daily Mail.

Basically Nigel's reply above is spin of the highest order.

What actually makes that kinda funny is that this post on Greenwich Watch is about Nigel's first locally connected posting since July in which he attacks the local Labour group for needing a spin meister of their own.

Perhaps with his reply Nigel was actually auditioning for the job...

Another no news story?? What could you mean? I am just running my eye down this blog...and I am unable to find a single 'no news' story. Identity assumed 'anonymous'!

On the issue of 'spinning' it is only something that should be done in a gym in my opinon. Spinning has singlehandedly done more damage to democracy and the political system than any other event I can think of. Dumbed down Britain is nothing to be proud of.
